The Reading Journal
This is where you will find a selection of picturebooks and featured authors & illustrators. This space is a reflection of the children’s literature and book makers I’m drawn to, as well as the curiosities and connections I find in them. I also share occasional musings on life- a combination of thoughts and imagery that inspire my day-to-day. What you see here is shared on the Mama Reads Instagram too.
Possum Magic and the Beauty of a Simple Life
One of my weekly rituals includes a walk to the Firehall Branch of the Vancouver Public Library.
A Picture Book that is a Wild Ride
Let’s rewind to early 2012. I was five months pregnant, navigating life in Vancouver between rainy walks, prenatal yoga, and ambitious home-cooked meals.
If I Were a Lion (And Other Wild Wonderings)
Who doesn’t love receiving gifts in the good old-fashioned mail?
A Bit Lost (But Always Found)
This story goes back... way back. To July 1988, when I was still just a little bean in my mother’s belly.
A is for Accordion, Z is for Zither
Music has a way of finding us—of reaching places words can’t always touch.
Saudades, Sunshine & Stories
Summer has arrived in Vancouver—suddenly, joyfully. The city comes alive this time of year, its diverse and vibrant communities spilling out onto the sidewalks, parks, and beaches.
Oh, the Places You’ll Go!
Here’s a little personal fact you might be surprised to hear: I didn’t read my first Dr. Seuss book until I was 18.
A decade ago, I wrote about motherhood and children’s literature in a blog called One More Story Told. For now, I transferred a couple of my favorite posts over and I’ll slowly recreate this space to share thoughts on books and life. My daughter, Georgia, who inspired that early project is now thirteen years old. Only a few inches away from being taller than I. She loves art and tacos al pastor. If you have a book / author / illustrator suggestion to be featured, please share on here.
